Héctor Alexander, has announced that the unicameral national assembly has approved the 2020 draft national budget, which is set at US$23.3bn. The draft budget proposal is the first to be presented by President
Laurentino Cortizo of the ruling Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD) who took office in July. The approved budget represents an increase of US$6.2m when compared with what was originally presented by the government. A statement published by the national assembly notes that US$7.7bn, representing 33% of the total budget, relates to fiscal investments. These investments are said to be destined to a variety of sectors including transport, communications, energy, agriculture, education, and social security.
