* Uruguay’s national export promotion agency, Uruguay XXI, has released new figures which show exports totalled US$738m in October 2019, a 10% decrease year-on-year. However, the same figures showed that exports in the first ten months of 2019 totalled US$7.75bn, up 1.4% compared with the same period in 2018. Uruguay XXI attributes the decline in October to a drop in exports from key sectors such as dairy which was down 42% year-on-year, and cellulose which was down 24%, as well as the scheduled maintenance shutdown of the Finnish-owned UPM pulp mill, which halted operations for 13 days.
