Chile’s drought threatens insecurity

Chile has been badly affected by drought in recent years, but the past months have been particularly bad. With the situation showing no sign of improving, the government led by President Sebastián Piñera has announced measures to tackle what it describes as a national water crisis, which threatens key industries as well as Chileans’ everyday water supply. Critics say these will be insufficient and are demanding a structural change to the country’s water policy.
