In brief: Mexican businesses guarantee a minimum wage

* According to business initiative Empresas Por El Bienestar, 100 Mexican businesses will guarantee their employees a monthly minimum salary of M$6,500 (US$325) beginning on 1 December, with the goal of decreasing poverty in the country. This amount is approximately double the actual daily minimum salary of M$102.68 (US$5) which came into force last month when Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador increased it by 16.2%. The group of 100 companies that pledged to raise their minimum salaries include businesses from all geographical zones and sectors, from “manufacturing and services to transport and agriculture”.
