URUGUAY: Lacalle Pou cements coalition and pulls clear

Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou is the favourite to win Uruguay’s presidential run-off on 24 November, bringing to an end the 15-year tenure of the ruling left-wing Frente Amplio (FA). Lacalle Pou stitched together a five-party opposition coalition, ranging from the centre to the far Right, on 5 November. On the same day the first electoral poll released since 27 October, when he secured his passage through to the second round, gave Lacalle Pou a five-percentage-point lead (47%-42%) over his rival, the FA’s Daniel Martínez.
