Argentina: On 1 November, US President
Donald Trump telephoned Argentina’s president-elect
Alberto Fernández to congratulate him on his electoral victory. According to a tweet by Fernández, Trump informed the president-elect that he had instructed his team in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to continue to help Argentina. Sources from Fernández’s Frente de Todos Peronist coalition said Trump told Fernández he was going to
“do an amazing job” and that he hoped to meet him soon. Fernández informed Trump of his intention of maintaining a
“cordial and mature relationship” around
“many common issues in the framework of a complex situation in which Argentina needs help”. During his campaign, Fernández spoke of forming of a
“mature bond” with the US.
