In brief: US to invest US$632m in Mexico gas pipeline

* Adam Boehler, the chief executive officer of the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), successor company of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), has signed a letter of intent to invest US$632m on a natural gas pipeline that will run through Oaxaca state and other southern states in Mexico. The US government has previously invested US$187m and has signed two letters of intent to finance two infrastructure projects which would represent a further investment of US$270m in Mexico. In signing the letter, witnessed by Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard and US Ambassador to Mexico Christopher Landau, Boehler said the pipeline would “foster development in the south of Mexico while strengthening energy security and facilitating trade, accelerate economic growth…[and] create transformative opportunities in southern Mexico to improve quality of life”.
