In brief: Mexico’s energy companies ask for better electric transmission network

* Mexico’s energy companies have asked the government to invest in modernising and extending the electricity transmission network. Speaking on a panel discussion at the 2019 Forbes Energy Forum, the general director of Iderbrola Mexico, Enrique Alba, said that although there have been investments in the construction of transportation gas ducts from the US to Mexico, the electricity transmission networks “haven’t had the same investor rhythm”. According to Alba, this causes a challenge when it comes to social cohesion in Mexico, since the areas of Mexico’s southeast which suffer from a shortage of transmission networks are the ones with higher energy prices and are as such “less incentivising for industrial development”.
