In brief: OECD setback for Panama

* The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in its global forum on transparency and exchange of information for tax purposes, has rated Panama as only “partly compliant” in a conformity test of its standards. According to the forum, during the supervision period of April 2015 through March 2018, Panama received 302 demands for tax information from other countries, but only gave 20 responses. In addition, 46% of requests received only a partial reply. The forum recommends Panama to “strengthen its supervisory programmes to ensure the availability of accounting information is kept in practice”.
