In brief: UN announces US$1.35bn plan to help Venezuelan refugees

* The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have announced a US$1.35bn regional plan to alleviate the humanitarian necessities of the Venezuelan migrants and refugees who have fled the crisis in their country. The 2020 Regional Refugee and Migrant Response Plan (RMRP), launched from Bogotá, Colombia, is a “coordination and a fundraising tool established and implemented by 137 organisations” with the goal of reaching Venezuelans in 17 different countries. The plan will focus on nine different sectors: health, education, food security, integration, protection, nutrition, shelter, relief items and humanitarian transport; and water, sanitation and hygiene.
