In brief: Peru’s 2020 budget up 5.5%

* Peru’s national executive has published the 2020 national budget, which is up by 5.5% on this year’s to US$52bn. Following the dissolution of the national congress by President Martín Vizcarra ahead of the holding of early legislative elections, the 2020 budget was set via an emergency executive decree and approved by the council of ministers. According to Economy & Finance Minister María Antonieta Alva, the 2020 budget will prioritise education and health initiatives; combatting violence against women; decentralisation; countering cold snaps, frosts, and snowstorms; risk management; and justice reform.
