In brief: América Móvil to invest R$30bn in Brazil

* Carlos Slim Domit, president of the board of Mexican telecoms company América Móvil, has said that the company intends to invest R$30bn (US$7.15bn) in Brazil over the next three years. América Móvil controls Brazilian firms Claro, Embratel, NET and, as of March 2019, Nextel. Speaking to journalists after meeting with President Jair Bolsonaro in Brasília, Slim Domit reportedly said the investment would be focused on developing networks and infrastructure for the expansion of telecommunications services as well as solutions for cloud data storage. Slim Domit also expressed América Móvil’s interest in Brazil’s 5G spectrum auction, due next year.
