In brief: Panama announces US$1.3bn in bond placement

* Panama’s economy & finance minister, Héctor Alexander, has announced the placement of US$1.3bn in sovereign bonds on the international market. Alexander said the 10-year bonds have a yield rate of 2.83% while the 30-year options are set at 3.6%. These are historically low rates for Panama. The minister said the money raised by the bond issue will be used mostly to repay interest on previous bonds set to expire in January 2020 worth US$1.2bn.
