* According to Peru’s tourism & foreign trade ministry, the final of the Copa Libertadores club football competition generated more than US$62m for Peru’s economy. This was the first time that the Copa Libertadores final was hosted by a country not represented by either of the finalist teams, which this year were Argentine (River Plate) and Brazilian (Flamengo). More than 40,000 people came to Lima to watch the final in the international football club competition, 54% of them coming from Brazil, 39% from Argentina, and 7% coming from other countries like the US, Mexico, Chile and Colombia. The average spending per person of these tourists during their stay in Peru was of about US$760, without including international transportation.
