In brief: Nicaragua’s parliament approves 2019 budget increase

* Nicaragua’s national assembly has approved an increase in the country’s national budget for 2019 which will incorporate C$7.855bn (US$233.1m) into the national economy, with the goal of “maintaining budget balance and the sustainability of public finances”. According to the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) government led by President Daniel Ortega, this adjustment was due to increased tax take, following changes to tax legislation which took place in February 2019.
