In brief: Commerce confidence index dips in Brazil

* The Instituto Brasileiro de Economia (Ibre) at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) university and think-tank has released its latest commerce confidence index (Icom), which registered a monthly dip in November. The Icom fell by 0.6 points to 97.8 points in November, having previously registered a monthly increase in October. The coordinator of the FGV Ibre’s commerce survey, Rodolpho Tobler, says that this fall in confidence was driven by tempered expectations from businesses, with doubts as to the pace of sales over the next months. Although expectations for sales remain positive, driven in part by workers making one-time withdrawals from the FGTS workers’ fund, the continuation of the recovery trend remains uncertain, Tobler says.
