BRAZIL: Tough-on-crime talk takes centre stage

A fall in homicide rates nationally has allowed the Brazilian government led by President Jair Bolsonaro to claim public security victories, despite very little having moved forward in terms of legislation or policy in this area during its 11 months in power. Bolsonaro now appears to be trying to resolve this with some proposed security bills aligned with his pro-gun and tough-on-crime views.
