* The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released a statement detailing a meeting between it managing director
Kristalina Georgieva and
Richard Martínez, Ecuador’s finance minister, in which they discussed the Latin American country’s economic outlook and policy plans. IMF spokesperson
Gerry Rice communicated the meeting’s outcome, principally that the IMF remains “
closely engaged” with the Ecuadorean authorities and also noting that the recent submission of a tax reform to the legislative assembly “
will help strengthen government finances and make the tax system simpler and more growth-friendly”. The statement adds that the legislature’s passage of this reform would “
be an important milestone for the government's program supported by the IMF and would facilitate the combined second and third reviews of the program to be completed soon.”
