Antonio Rivas Palacio, has said that he expects Paraguay to close an automotive agreement with Brazil before it takes over the pro-tempore presidency of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) trade bloc this week, at the heads of state summit to be held in Bento Gonçalves, Rio Grande do Sul state in Brazil on 5 December. The automobile industry is not covered by the Mercosur treaty, and this bilateral automotive agreement, in discussion since September, would allow Paraguayan producers to continue exporting auto-parts to Brazil without being submitted to a 16% tariff.
