Security concerns mount as UN ends its peacekeeping presence

The United Nations (UN) Mission for Justice Support in Haiti (Minujusth), which replaced the UN Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (Minustah) when it ended its 13-year mandate in the country in October 2017, has left the country. While it has since been replaced by a non-peacekeeping force, the UN Integrated Office in Haiti (Binuh), Minujusth’s departure comes as serious security concerns persist due to the ongoing protests which began in September calling for President Jovenel Moïse to step down (see our sister publication Weekly Report [WR-19-39] for more on this).
