* Paraguay’s 80-member chamber of deputies has approved its own version of the draft budget for 2020, rejecting the version approved last week by the senate. With 49 votes in favour and 16 abstentions, deputies approved a budget of G$86.32tn (US$13.35bn), up from the G$86.22tn draft budget previously approved by the chamber in November. This latest budget includes budget increases for the defence ministry, the attorney general’s office, and the chamber of deputies, as well as 16% salary increase for teachers from next April. The draft budget now returns to the senate.
