In brief: Conservation areas included in Brazil privatisation plan

* The Brazilian government led by President Jair Bolsonaro has included three conservation areas and major tourist destinations in its privatisation and concessions programme, known as the investment partnerships programme (PPI), and in its national divestment programme (PND). The aim is to grant concessions to private companies for the provision of visitor services and for actions supporting conservation, protection and management in the Lençóis Maranhenses national park in the state of Maranhão, the Jericoacoara national park in the state of Ceará, and the Iguaçu national park in the state of Paraná.
