VENEZUELA: Opposition hurt by corruption claims

Venezuela’s opposition leader Juan Guaidó, widely recognised as the country’s interim president, said on 1 December that a group of deputies in the opposition-controlled national assembly (AN) were involved in an influence-peddling scandal and would need to be investigated. The revelation is a blow to Guaidó’s campaign to topple the government of Nicolás Maduro and to hold new elections in the country.
