* Argentina’s outgoing finance minister,
Hernán Lacunza, has reported that in the first 11 months of the year Argentina accumulated a primary fiscal surplus (excluding payments of interest on debt) of US$417.5m or 0.1% of GDP. This is the first time that Argentina has had a primary fiscal surplus since 2010, but it was achieved with an unpopular fiscal adjustment programme that contributed to the election victory of
Alberto Fernández of the Frente de Todos Peronist coalition. Fernández has vowed to end the fiscal adjustment programme after taking power on 10 December and once again increase government spending. But this has produced concerns that the Fernández administration will rack up a fiscal deficit.
