On 9 December, Ecuador’s national assembly (AN) voted to approve the ‘tax simplicity and progressivity law’, President Lenín Moreno’s latest attempt to pass the programme of economic reform needed to meet his government’s financial support agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Moreno’s previous reform proposals were a major cause of Ecuador’s widespread protests from 3-13 October.
