Chilean security forces face human rights abuse allegations

A number of human rights groups and international institutions have denounced human rights violations committed by Chile’s security forces since protests began shaking the country in mid-October. Although it recognises that there have been some abuses, the government led by President Sebastián Piñera rejects the most damning allegations presented by NGO Amnesty International (AI), which has concluded that Chile’s security forces have been carrying out a policy of deliberate repression against demonstrators.
