BOLIVIA: Struggling to turn a page

A month on from Evo Morales’ resignation as President, the divisions exposed by the political crisis remain clearer than ever despite the approval of an electoral law paving the way for fresh elections [WR-19-47]. One cause of these divisions is the question of responsibility for the post-electoral violence which erupted, leaving 36 dead according to figures from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). The issue remains a bone of contention between the interim government led by President Jeanine Áñez and international human rights institutions such as the IACHR and Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
