BRAZIL: Rising violence in the Amazon

Two indigenous leaders were murdered on 7 December in the north-eastern state of Maranhão, which is part of the Brazilian ‘Legal Amazon’. This is just the latest in a string of violent attacks against Brazil’s indigenous peoples, believed to be linked to the defence of their land in the Amazon rainforest.
