In brief: San Luis Potosí to be leader in renewables in Mexico

* The governor of the state of San Luis Potosí, Juan Manuel Carreras, has said that he sees his state as being a leader in the development of renewable energy in Mexico, thanks to its wind and sun assets. Carreras was speaking to journalists visiting San Luis Potosí during the media tour for Solar Power Mexico, a solar energy conference that will take place in March 2020 in Mexico City, when he emphasised the importance of investment in the clean energy sector and of energy security. According to Solar Power Mexico, the country ranks fifth in the world in terms of new solar energy capacity planned for 2021, and offers opportunities for investments and installation of both small and large-scale solar energy systems, with solar irradiance averaging between 4.4 and 6.3 kilowatt-hour per square metre (kWh/m2) per day.
