Argentina: On 10 January the Argentine government led by President Alberto Fernández announced the appointment of a new ambassador to the US, and a team to represent Argentina at various international organisations based in Washington DC. In an official statement it was confirmed that Jorge Argüello will return to Washington as Argentina’s ambassador to the US, to resume the post he previously filled from 2011 to 2013. He will also be Argentina’s representative to the G-20. Argüello will coordinate a Washington-based team in charge of Argentina’s liaison with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, United Nations, the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), and the Organization of American States. The delegation includes lawyer Sergio Chodos, who returns to the role of executive director for the Southern Cone at the IMF (2012-2016); economist and former ambassador to the US (2013-2015) Cecilia Nahón, who will act as alternate executive director on the World Bank Board, representing Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay; and lawyer and president of the Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires bank, Guillermo Francos, who will be executive director for Argentina and Haiti on the IADB Board.
