In brief: Latest figures on Panama’s public debt

* Panama’s economy & finance ministry (MEF) has released new figures which show Panama’s public debt reached US$31bn at end of 2019, up 2.1% on the previous month. According to the most recent (December 2019) report from the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (Eclac), in September 2019 Panama’s public debt stood at 41.5% of GDP, up by 2.7 percentage points relative to the year-earlier level.
