In brief: Positive results for 2019 formal job creation in Brazil

* Brazil’s economy ministry has released the latest figures from the national employment registry (Caged), according to which a total of 644,079 formal jobs were created in 2019. This is 115,000 more jobs than in 2018, and the highest number of annual job creation in the formal sector since 2013. This brings the country’s total stock of formal jobs to 39m. The month of December saw negative results, with 307,311 layoffs. This loss of formal jobs in December follows a seasonal pattern observed every year.
