In brief: Argentina prepares to negotiate with IMF

*Argentina’s economy ministry has announced the creation of a new technical office that will be in charge of assisting the ministry with the renegotiation of the country’s debt with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). A ministerial statement said that the Unidad Ejecutora Especial Temporaria office will be led by economist Emiliano Libman and will be tasked with “elaborating a negotiation strategy and formulate proposals to advance the conversations/negotiations with the IMF”. It will also act as a liaison between the Argentine government, foreign diplomats and the private sector in all matters relating to the renegotiations. The announcement came after the local press reported that Economy Minister Martín Guzmán has flown to New York City to hold his first formal meeting with IMF officials to discuss the debt renegotiations.
