In brief: Colombia announces new price controls on medicines

*The Colombian government has announced price controls on 770 medicines for the treatment of diabetes, respiratory illnesses, metabolic disorders, heart conditions, and cancer among other things. The government expects that the move, which will reduce prices on average by 49%, will generate annual savings of Col$320bn (US$94m). The initiative is part of the government’s plans announced last year to settle the debts of the national public health system and reduce the costs of healthcare provision.
