In brief: IMF cuts Chile growth forecast

* The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has sharply reduced GDP growth projections for Chile for 2020, as a result of the social unrest in the country and the policy responses to the protests. “Following a sharp decline in late 2019, economic activity is expected to recover gradually supported by a significant fiscal expansion and looser monetary policy”, the IMF says. It now expects GDP growth in 2019 to stand at 0.9%, and projects just 1% growth for 2020 (a 2.1 percentage point reduction on the 2020 GDP growth forecast it gave in its October 2019 World Economic Outlook report).
