Costa Rica will hold municipal elections on 2 February. Earlier this month the political opposition accused President Carlos Alvarado before the supreme electoral tribunal (TSE) of contravening electoral law, by publishing videos on social media of public works carried out by his government around the country in the midst of the electoral campaign. Alvarado is looking for a boost for his centre-left Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) after several months of conflict in the second half of 2019.
