“scenarios of negotiation” following the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union (EU) which is formalised today (31 January) – although the transition period is expected to last until December 2020. According to an SE statement, Mexico and the UK have had a preferential trade relationship under the framework of the EU-Mexico trade agreement which came into force in 2000. The statement notes that in 2018 the UK was Mexico’s sixth main trading partner among the EU member states and 18th, globally, with a trade balance of US$4.6bn.
