In brief: Colombia’s gov’t hails ‘reactivation’ of hydrocarbons sector

*Colombia’s mining & energy minister María Fernanda Suárez has reported that Colombia’s gas production was up 9.5% in 2019 while oil production was up 2.4%. According to Suárez oil production rose from an average of 865,127 barrels per day (bpd) in 2018 to 885,851 (bpd) at the end of 2019, the highest rate since 2016. Meanwhile gas production increased from 977m cubic feet per day in 2018 to 1.068bn cubic feet per day by the end of 2019. According to the same figures, there was a 9.5% increase in exploratory wells, which search for hydrocarbons, rising from 66 in 2018 to 73 in 2019 while the number of development wells, which extract hydrocarbons, increased by 6.2%, rising from 725 in 2018 to 773 in 2019.
