In brief: Panama metro line contract finally awarded to HPH Joint Venture

* After winning the tender for the development of Line 3 of the Panama City metro with a bid of US$2.51bn in November 2019, South Korean consortium HPH Joint Venture has now overcome legal challenges from competitors China Railway Group and Consortium ACPC, to secure the contract. On 4 February, Héctor Ortega, the director of Metro de Panamá, the state-owned company that manages the metro system, announced the adjudication and informed the press that the project will generate 3,500 direct jobs and another 1,000 indirect jobs. “The new line will have the capacity to transport 180,000 people per day and 20,000 in peak hours,” he added.
