In brief: Latest unemployment figures released in Costa Rica

* Costa Rica’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released new figures which show that the national unemployment rate was 12.4% in the fourth quarter of 2019, unchanged compared with the same quarter the previous year. This is up from 11.4% in the third quarter of 2019. According to a survey by the centre for research and policy studies (Ciep) at the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) published in December 2019, unemployment was cited as the main problem facing Costa Rica (by 32% of respondents).
