On 9 February, police in Brazil’s north-eastern state of Bahia killed Adriano ‘Capitão Adriano’ da Nóbrega, a former captain in the police’s special operations battalion (Bope) in Rio de Janeiro state, on the run from the authorities, known to be linked with vigilante ‘milícia’ groups there, and reportedly wanted in relation to the March 2018 murder of Rio city councillor Marielle Franco.
