In brief: FDI to Chile increases despite unrest

* Chile’s central bank (BCCh) has published its latest monthly statistics bulletin, according to which foreign direct investment (FDI) to Chile totalled US$10.797bn in 2019. This is a 77.5% increase on FDI in 2018, which totalled US$6.082bn, and is the second consecutive year in which FDI to Chile has increased, despite the social unrest which has been shaking the country since mid-October 2019 and was expected to have scared investors away. “Investors trust in our country,” economy minister Lucas Palacios said.
