In brief: Brazil’s grain harvest to increase in 2020

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest estimates for the country’s production of cereals, legumes and oilseeds for the coming year, according to which it expects a 246.7m tonne (t) harvest in 2020, up 2.2% (an extra 5.3m t) on the 2019 harvest. This is a 1.5% increase on its previous predictions for the 2020 grain harvest. Record volumes of soya production (projected to total 123.3m t, up 8.7% on 2019) are expected to make up half of the total volume of grain harvested in 2020.
