In brief: Guatemala’s central bank releases latest trade figures

* Guatemala’s central bank (Banguat) has released latest trade figures which show exports in 2019 were US$11.18bn, up 2% compared with 2018 while imports were US$19.9bn, up from US$19.7bn in 2018. This leaves a trade deficit of US$8.72bn. Guatemala’s most important exports were: clothing (US$1.4bn); bananas (US$844m); sugar (US$695m); coffee (US$662m); and cardamom (US$648m). While the main export markets were: the US (US$3.6bn); Central America (US$3.36bn); Europe (US$893.6m); and Mexico (US$551.9m).
