In brief: Brazil’s FGV releases 2019 GDP forecast

* Brazil’s Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), a university and think-tank in São Paulo, has released its latest GDP monitor, according to which it expects the Brazilian economy to have expanded by 1.2% in 2019. This is in line with other projections, and gives a more optimistic forecast than the central bank’s economic activity index (IBC-Br) released last week. The FGV noted that gross fixed capital formation and household consumption drove last year’s GDP growth with 2.7% and 1.8% expansion, respectively, whereas activity in the extractive, manufacturing, and public administration sectors saw contractions of 1.3%, 0.1%, and 0.1%, respectively.
