Guillermo Pattillo has resigned as head of Chile’s national statistics agency (INE) following an error in Chile’s consumer price index (CPI) measure for January. The miscalculation concerned the monthly variation in the price of electricity, which was amended on 12 February, five days after the initial publication, from 3% to 0%. The INE has said that this doesn’t affect the overall calculation that the monthly CPI in January was 0.6% however, bringing the 12-month rate to 3.5%. Economy Mister
Lucas Palacios has since confirmed that Pattillo’s deputy,
Sandra Quijada, will take over as head of the INE on an interim basis.
