In brief: Costa Rica claims progress in decarbonisation plan

* Costa Rica’s President Carlos Alvarado has announced that 79% of the actions stipulated in the first stage (2018-2022) of his government’s 2018-2050 decarbonisation plan are underway. The overall plan focuses on four main areas: sustainable transport & mobility; energy, sustainable construction & industry; integral waste management; and agriculture & land use. Examples of progress so far registered include: the launch of the process of carrying out feasibility studies for the Limón electric freight train project (Telca); efforts underway to purchase electric buses; the publication of a national electric transport plan; and the installation of fast-charge stations for cars, among other things.
