In brief: Panama’s growth figures for 2019 released

* Panama’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released figures which show Panama’s GDP growth for 2019 was 3%, while the GDP growth for the fourth quarter was 3.3% year-on-year. The growth in 2019 was driven by the mining sector, which was up 45.4%, while transport, storage & communications was up 6.8%. In its latest (December 2019) report, the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (Eclac) forecast 3.5% GDP growth for Panama for 2019, and 3.8% GDP growth in 2020.
