In brief: Cuba’s gov’t admits shortage of hygiene products

* Cuban state mouthpiece Granma has cited Cuba’s interior trade minister, Betsy Díaz Velázquez, as saying that next month should see an “improvement” in the supply of hygiene products such as soap, toothpaste, and liquid detergent, with the situation expected to be stable as of May and June. Díaz’s assurances follow reports of shortages which the government last month blamed on the impossibility of acquiring primary materials and the impact of US economic sanctions on the supply chain.
