In brief: Brazil’s tourism sector expands in 2019

* Brazil’s Confederação Nacional do Comércio de Bens, Serviços e Turismo (CNC) has reported that revenues in the country’s tourism sector grew 2.2% last year, to a total R$238.6bn (US$51.56bn). The tourism sector also contributed to the creation of 35,692 jobs last year, a 1.2% increase on job creation in the sector in 2018. “As expected, tourism revenue followed the upwards trend of 2019, in synergy with the economy’s anticipated performance”, the CNC’s president, José Roberto Tadros, said. The south-east region (which includes the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo) accounted for 61.6% of total tourism revenue, while the south region accounted for 15.9%, and the north-east 12.6%.
